This week has been a pretty exciting one for all supporters of the Barcelona football (soccer for you heathens) club as they took the "triplete" of winning the Spanish league, the Copa del Rei competition (also just Spanish clubs) and then the ultimate in Rome this week the Champions League Cup for the best European team beating both Chelsea and Manchester United in the process.
The mood has been getting more positive and euphoric over the last month as this team has performed wonders under their new manager, Pep Guardiola, an ex- Barcelona player in the 90's and local boy who only took over at the start of this season.
How you keep the momentum going and fulfill the heightened expectations of their followers will be keeping the bars full next year but meanwhile, almost singlehandedly, the success of FCB has given local people something other than the dire economic situation to think about.
Next year could be the hang-over but for now Barcelona is basking in the reflected glory of the best team in Europe that have thrilled supporters and opponents alike with their ball handling skills and spectacular high scoring games- Visca el Barça!
